The centre of the Podcetrtek Municipality and the province Srednje Sotelsko. On a hill above the town perches
Podcetrtek Castle which was first mentioned as long ago as the 13th century. The area obtained the rights of the borough
in the 15th century. Since that time the judicial and borough days, which were connected with the name of the area, have
taken place on Thursdays. Under the castle, by the picturesque stream running through the gorge, stands the Parish Church
of St. Lawrence. The present function of the central settlement is supplemented with numerous trading activities, central
primary school and kindergarden, medical centre with pharmacy, post office, bank and the role of the municipality and
tourist centre. The spa centre Terme Olimia is located in the immediate vicinity of the nucleus of the settlement.
